The Nigerian Institute of Physics (NIP) was established in 1973 and is the professional association for all physicists in Nigeria. The 47th annual conference holds from May 11th - 15th 2026. The theme of this year's conference is “Smart Physics: A New Perspective for Technological Advancement"

The conference is an NIP's special purpose vehicle to keep Nigeria Physics Research capability at cutting edge, promote strategic thinking, and identity cooperation opportunities in fields of mutual interest between academia, industry and public sectors.

The goal of this year's conference is to foster collaborative innovation and interdisciplinary research in physics, leveraging the smart research initiatives as a transformative lens that reshapes how we explore and expand the frontiers of science and technology. By integrating intelligent systems, data-driven models, and adaptive learning into clasical physics framworks-while embracing insigts from technophysics, which unravel Earth's dynamic structural processes, and sociophysics, which applies physical principles to model complex social behaviors-we open new pathways for solving intricates problems ranging from quantum computing and sustainable energy to societal dynamics and planetary evolution.

Lead City University, Ibadan was founded by Eduserve Consult to promote educational excellence. It applied to the NUC in 2002, and gained approval in 2003, and was officially lincensed by the Federal Executive Council on February 16th 2005.
